Back in the nineties, when our children were very young, we had a VW camper van and the six of us all managed to sleep in it somehow. Being in our thirties at the time, it was a symbol of our teenage years in the seventies. Nowadays, all we have to remind us of that fabulous old van, that brought our family from mountain campsites to seaside picnics, is this little model – a symbolic reminder of a much loved mode of transport. Hmm, maybe it’s time we got another one, they never go out of fashion. Our children are all grown up, so there’d be plenty of room for the dog this time.

This amused me ~ my son used to have a yellow one and travelled all over Europe in it when he was in his early twenties. They really are such fun ~ do get another one and blog about your travels!

I’d love to get another one. You’re son must have some great memories of his.

I’m sure he has but he would never tell me! He travels the world on a motorbike now!

Some things definitely cannot be shared with parents, lol. How lovely for your son, what a lovely way to see the world. When my husband and I were in our teens, we belonged to a motorcycle club and used to participate in rallies around Ireland. It wasn’t until we were expecting our first child that we had to sell the bike and buy a car.

Yes my hubby had a motorbike but common sense and practicality not to mention finances put paid to that after a few years!

Thanks, pity it’s only a toy model, but when I look at it the memories come flooding back.

Oh, I certainly do, Dan. It would be nice to have the opportunity to make some more. There’s a company here in Ireland that hires them out for holidays. I must look it up and see what they have on offer.

That would be fun.

Classic. There’s one in the family of our minister, and he uses it proudly (in his fifties) π

And you have the weather for it where you live, which is a bonus. Imagine the six of us stuck in a muddy campsite and the rain pelting down on the roof. But we loved it all the same, crazy as that may sound.

Ah, don’t believe everything you read. Many is the time that Easter holiday campers have seen the conditions you describe. π Then, there is also the deluge of a summer thunderstorm, but they usually pass quickly.

I always wanted a VW van!!! My friend had one, though and it was constantly breaking down. Perhaps just a lemon. http://judydykstrabrown.com/2015/07/11/the-rabbits-navel/

One of ours was a bit of a ‘lemon’ too. My husband used to say he spent more time under it than in it. π or should that be π¦

We always see more of them in the Summer here in Ireland, I think on continental Europe they are still quite popular.
