I didn’t know about these women, thanks for this very enlightening and interesting article on them, David.

Friedrich Engels’s name will forever be associated with that of Karl Marx. Together, they would write The Communist Manifesto, and in doing so would change the world.

There’s a saying that behind every good man is a great woman — well, Friedrich Engels had two… sisters by the name of Mary and Lizzie Burns. The interesting thing about them is that they hail from the Irish slums in Manchester. • But the change cannot be ignored and history should be recorded and remembered so that future generations, if they are willing, can learn from it. Unfortunately, to date, mankind has not done that. Greed and power-lust drive some to use good methods to their own advantage. It happens in all forms of government. How many have died directly and indirectly as a result of Capitalist greed? The same applies to Communism and Socialism. Are Democratic societies truly democratic? There seems to be corruption in all forms of government, no matter how good some politicians’ intentions might be. There will never be a perfect, corruption-free form of government because men are not perfect and the systems they devise are like themselves.
