No raining on Moby Dick’s parade this year, for Youghal’s annual celebration of John Huston’s movie adaptation of Herman Melville’s novel, Moby Dick.
It was in Paddy Linehan’s bar that Huston set up headquarters during filming, and subsequently, the name was changed to Moby Dick’s. It is still run by the Linehan family today and there you can have a drink surrounded by photographs of the cast and crew of the movie. The scene where Ahab’s ship, the Pequod, is sailing out from the harbor shows Linehan’s bar. As it heads out to sea, the ship passes the Youghal lighthouse, a local landmark. The actors, mostly women, standing on the pier are local people.
At the back of the pub a huge mural tells us loud and clear which alcoholic beverage Cap’n Ahab was partial to. 😉
We’ve been having so much sunshine that even our cattle are feeling the heat.
And a remake starring William Hurt and Donald Sutherland was shot in Hamburg. I shot photos of the props on the banks of the River Elbe. Watch out for the two images following the red flag. https://anglogermantranslations.wordpress.com/2014/10/20/vom-fischmarkt-bis-zum-alten-schweden/

I didn’t know that it was shot in Hamburg. You’ll have to start up a festival there, too.

So Ireland got to be New England for a while, hey? Cool story and those cows are precious!

There’s a photo in one of the papers of a herd of cattle sitting in the sand on a Kerry beach, seems even the animals are basking in the sunshine here. Just shows how long our winter has been (about a year and a half).
