Ballycastle, on the north Antrim coast, features in this week’s Thursday Doors. My daughter and her husband have finished renovating their cottage (featured in a previous Thursday Doors post) and it’s now available to rent. Here’s a few before and after shots:
Of course I had to give it a trial run before it was unleashed on the public and it was the perfect setting for a spot of writing.
I’ll put a link at the end for you to see more images of the inside and outside. I love what they did with the rear of the cottage, where it’s so nice to sit and enjoy nature.
Of course, I couldn’t resist taking some shots of the beautiful Causeway coast while I was there. So we headed for the beach, just a few minutes drive away.
There’s a ferry crossing to Rathlin Island from Ballycastle harbour every day but I haven’t been yet. I’d like to go when the puffins are there so I’ll wait till next summer.
Even though I was at the beach, I was still on the lookout for doors.
I think the Gaffer is feeling his age these days. He was giving me hints that it was time to turn back towards town.
As always, thanks a mil for coming along on this autumn beach walk with myself and the Gaffer. If you’re planning a trip to Ireland or fancy a few days exploring the Causeway coast and glens, have a look at what’s available for Cosy Cottage on Airbnb or Booking.com There are more images of the completed renovation on those sites, too.
Norm has some interesting Thursday Doors over on his blog this week, with links to lots more in the comments at the end of his post.
A lot of work with a beautiful outcome, Jean. Congratulations.

Wow, what a transformation! It’s lovely. I love the turquoise door and pine woods, and that barn door to the ensuite.
I want to go see the Puffins when they’re there too!

They weren’t sure about the blue after the first coat was done but it really turned out well. I’ll definitely be taking photos of those puffins when I see them.

I cringe seeing all the work you have done here- it says backbreaking long hours to me! But the result is super cute, Jean! And the landscape is stunning -I LOVE water closeby!

Amazing light up on that north coast area, the reflection of all that water, I suppose.

I do find the cottage quite inviting (and I will share this with The Mrs for future destination), but the rough and tumble side of me likes the “Before” photos and condition! reminds me of my Man Cave, so it feels homely! 😉

I definitely wouldn’t have slept in the ‘before’ cottage, especially at this time of year. But it was lived in up till the 1980’s.

That’s more work than my broken down old body has the energy for but bravo to them for doing an excellent job. I love the hanging door and the clean simple line of the kitchen cupboard doors.
Thanks for the tour Jean 🙂

Ah, the stamina of youth, Norm. I was exhausted just watching them work.

Look at those gorgeous skies. The cottage turned out just dreamy! I’m so glad all the hard work and headache paid off 🙂 I would certainly check it out if I had the pleasure of traveling.

When we visit now we babysit so they can have a night out at the cinema or a restaurant, instead of them having to paint walls or clean tiles, lol.

Jean,
If Patti and I ever get back to Ireland, we will have to make a reservation with your daughter. The cottage is lovely, and we’d like to have tea with both of you again.
Until then,
Judy

If you do come back again it would be great to see you both again and maybe spend more time together. If you stay in the cottage I could stay in Elaine’s house and we’d be neighbours, lol.

That will be awesome! We will absolutely put that in our plans.
Hopefully we will be able to travel again in a year or so. Best wishes to you and Elaine.
